Shaheen-Portman bill would bring significant energy savings, economic benefits

The bipartisan Shaheen-Portman energy-efficiency bill could be a big boost for the U.S. economy, and the lawmakers say retrofits to U.S. buildings could result in $1 trillion in savings over 10 years, writes Peter Kelly-Detwiler. The measure "is not overly bold, it makes good common sense, and it is a step in the right direction of creating jobs, improving the environment and bolstering America's economic competitiveness. It should be given a chance to pass," Kelly-Detwiler says.
