Undeclared allergens are top reason for food recalls

The ExpertRECALL Index found that undeclared allergens represented 60% of recalls in the second quarter of this year. Accuracy in labeling should be a top priority for food and beverage companies, said Mike Rozembajgier, vice president of recalls at Stericylce ExpertRECALL, who noted that new technology is making it easier for companies to alert consumers in the event of a recall. "We are seeing more manufacturers look at the social media angle, communication is so important and it needs to be done clearly and swiftly, which is why social media is so important," he said.
