Samsung, Nokia plan low-cost smartphones

Samsung and Nokia have announced new low-cost smartphones as they seek to defend their turf against top rival Apple. Samsung will offer four new models in its Galaxy line aimed at emerging cellphone markets in China and India. The move comes as Apple is reported to be working on a release of a cheaper version of the iPhone 4 in Asian markets. Nokia, meanwhile, has unveiled three new mass-market smartphone models that will run on its Symbian software.
