Having a family history of diabetes raises prediabetes risk

People with a family history of diabetes were at a 26% increased risk of prediabetes, according to a study in Diabetologia. Researchers also found the link between family history and prediabetes was only seen in those who were not obese. "This might indicate [that] the effect of family history on prediabetes becomes readily measurable only when not overshadowed by strong risk factors such as obesity," researchers said.
