Supply chain managers can see great benefit from focusing on the top three tiers of the "supply chain hierarchy of needs" -- social responsibility, service performance and supply chain performance. A social responsibility assessment should gauge a supplier's ability to meet environmental or other expectations, writes Ken Bradley, president of Lytica. However, it also should determine if they have "a value set that enables them to take actions consistent with your company's requirements should unforeseen circumstances arise."
