Proposal would exempt private companies from VIE guidance

The Financial Accounting Standards Board has proposed an alternative to generally accepted accounting principles that would exempt some private companies from having to apply variable-interest-entity guidance to lessors that are under common control. The Private Company Council originated the proposal to streamline accounting at privately held companies. The FASB is seeking comment by Oct. 14.
