Rosebud Reservation puts wellness emphasis on diabetes

The Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota is using a $5.4 million investment from insulin-maker Novo Nordisk to help build a new wellness center and buy a mobile health unit that will travel the almost 2,000-square-mile reservation. Tribal leaders also plan to certify American-Indian diabetes educators because while data show American Indians are more likely to have diabetes, the Indian Health Service no longer provides diabetes educators on the reservation.
