Scientists discover how SARS takes over host cell

Three proteins on the surface of the SARS coronavirus, which caused an outbreak in 2002 and 2003, allow it to hijack the host cell's machinery to manufacture more virus, according to new research. The findings may lead to therapies for severe acute respiratory syndrome and related pathogens, experts said. The emerging Middle East respiratory syndrome is another coronavirus that poses a threat to humans.
