Joint Commission issues alert for use of radiation-based imaging

The Joint Commission has issued a Sentinel Event Alert that contains recommendations on how to properly use radiation-based imaging to prevent unnecessary radiation exposure. The recommendations include the need for collaboration between radiologists and referring physicians about needed tests, thorough review of proper dosing protocols before tests and centralized monitoring of diagnostic equipment that give out high levels of radiation.
