Number of Scottish herds declines

Scotland may still have the largest average herd size in the U.K., but the number of overall herds is declining. The number shrank from more than 1,400 to 1,189 in only two years, worrying some members of the Scottish Dairy Cattle Association. "There is now evidence that the total output of milk could fall rapidly as the steep decline in herds will continue," said the SDCA secretary.
