Australia's Target is a retailer from another mother

The 300 Target stores in Australia have the same name, the same logo and even the same slogan as North American Targets, but the two retailers are completely separate companies. Owned by retail giant Wesfarmers, Australia's Target stores have their roots in an informal conversation more than 50 years ago with Minnesota-based Target owner Dayton Hudson Corp. Today, the stores have the potential to spark confusion in the coming years as Minneapolis-based Target continues its global and online expansion, say some intellectual property lawyers.
