Utah refinery, feds reach settlement on pollution violations

Big West Oil has reached a settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency on alleged pollution violations at its refinery in North Salt Lake, Utah. Under the terms, the company will pay a fine of $175,000 for Clean Air Act violations and spend $18 million for the installation of pollution reduction systems at the facility. "We have appreciated EPA's and the state's willingness to work with us in finding workable methods for making the desired reductions," Big West Oil said.
