Replacement surgeries prompt recall of J&J unit's hip implants

DePuy Orthopaedics, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, announced that it is pulling from the market two of its hip implants, the ASR Hip Resurfacing System and the ASR XL Acetabular System, after unpublished data showed that many patients have had to undergo procedures to replace the devices. DePuy said it would pay for the treatment and monitoring costs related to the recall.
