CBO releases debt, unemployment projections

The Congressional Budget Office projected Wednesday that the federal government will accumulate $3.5 trillion more debt over the next decade, if Bush-era tax cuts and other measures are allowed to expire. If those measures are renewed, the debt would rise to $8.5 trillion, putting the national debt at 82% of gross domestic product in 2021. Unemployment will remain above 8% until 2014, the CBO projected.
