Investors flee stock and bond funds ahead of possible Fed cutback

Anticipating action by the Federal Reserve Bank to reduce bond purchases this fall, investors are pulling out of stock and bond funds in large numbers. So far in August, some $30 billion has been withdrawn from bond funds, and stock funds have seen the largest outflow in five years. In addition to the expected Fed cutback, investors are also wary of gridlock in Washington over the federal budget.
