Rally opposing proposed ban on biotech field trials held in India

The Consortium of Indian Farming Associations and other farmers' groups held a rally to protest the recommendations of a Supreme Court-appointed committee to prohibit field tests of biotech crops in India. Biotech crops "offer several solutions to farmers' problems. We need biotechnology and the right to choose and freedom to farm," CIFA secretary-general Chengal Reddy said. "It would be unfair to deny India's farmers the benefits of biotechnology, and it would be unfair to the nation to prevent its farmlands from prospering more," said P.S. Pangli, secretary of the Punjab Agricultural University Kisan Club.
