Sept. 23 is deadline for compliance with HIPAA changes

Physicians have until Sept. 23 to comply with changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that affect patient privacy rights and expand federal enforcement capabilities. The HHS final rule allows patients to ask for an electronic copy of their records and covers a physician's use of patients' personal health information in marketing and fundraising.
