Wildfire affects San Francisco's power lines; water a concern

The Rim Fire in California threatens the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, which powers San Francisco's transit system, airport and a hospital and supplies 85% of the city’s water. Although the water supply thus far is unharmed, it's a different story with the electrical power. The city has spent $600,000 to buy replacement power after transmission lines and powerhouses were deactivated in the area.
