Navy recommends acceptance of Lockheed ship

Navy inspectors have confirmed that they successfully tested Lockheed Martin's first Littoral Combat Ship and recommended the vessel for acceptance. Recent testing on Lake Michigan found a "capable, well-built and an inspection-ready ship" with fewer than normal issues that require further attention, according to Allison Stiller, deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for ship programs. Lockheed expects the USS Freedom to be commissioned on Nov. 8.
