United to trim 10% of flight attendants from payroll

UAL Corp., still battling the effects of record-high fuel bills, says it will cut more than 1,500 flight attendant positions at United Airlines, effective Oct. 31. The new layoffs are part of the airline's goal of 7,000 job reductions by the end of 2009. According to the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, workers who volunteer for furloughs before Sept. 22 will be offered an incentive package that includes keeping most benefits.
