Bacteria may be able to manipulate nerves' pain signals

A study in the journal Nature suggests nerves and bacteria can communicate and that, at least in mice, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria may be able to affect pain signals to the brain. Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard University researchers said they determined that molecules made by bacteria could act on nerve fibers.
