PTC uncertainty prompts developer to merge 4 Texas wind projects

Tri Global Energy merged four wind projects in Texas' Hale County into a single, 1,100-megawatt project called the Hale County Joint Venture in a bid to save on development costs and tax payments, especially if the wind-energy Production Tax Credit is not renewed beyond this year. "By combining the projects they will all qualify for the [PTC] if construction begins on any of them by the end of this year," the company said. Tri Global expects an initial 450 MW to go online in 2015, and the entire complex to become operational in 2017.
