ISO-New England defends pricing policy

ISO-New England said the regional electricity markets remain competitive despite the announced closure of Entergy's Vermont Yankee nuclear plant. "The ISO has identified New England's dependence on natural gas for power generation and the potential retirement of generators as key strategic risks, and is developing solutions to address these and other strategic challenges," the ISO said. The remarks are in response to Entergy's statement attributing the retirement of Vermont Yankee in part to ISO-NE's "artificially low" energy and capacity prices.
