Allen: High seas prompt BP to postpone blowout-preventer operations

The blowout preventer from BP's damaged Gulf of Mexico well must first be lifted from the ocean floor and studied before conclusions can me made on what caused the blowout and subsequent oil spill, said Wayne Andersen, a member of one of the commissions probing the incident. BP's operations to pull out the device, meanwhile, were delayed until Thursday because of high seas in the Gulf of Mexico. Workers raised concerns about the risk of hanging heavy equipment from an underwater crane amid 8-foot waves, said retired U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen.
