District gets $1.4 million grant for Mandarin program

A $1.4 million federal grant to be spent over the next five years will expand a Mandarin program for students in San Mateo, Calif. Immersion classes in Mandarin are available to students from kindergarten through grade 3 at one elementary school, and the program is expected to include the entire school over the next two years. The grant will allow the district to join with several organizations to offer Mandarin to students from preschool to college.
