People open their wallets for pets' medical care

Americans are expected to spend about $12.8 billion on their pets' health care this year, the APPA says. "I think now pets are more part of the family," a veterinarian said. Pet owners "ultimately are responsible for [their animals] so it's a different relationship than even with people," another veterinarian said.
