HHS: Medicare Advantage coverage now includes same-sex beneficiaries

Medicare Advantage plans now offer equal coverage to all beneficiaries, regardless of sexual orientation, after a recent Supreme Court decision that strikes down the Defense of Marriage Act, HHS announced last week. "Today's announcement is the first of many steps that we will be taking over the coming months to clarify the effect of the Supreme Court's decision and to ensure that gay and lesbian couples are treated equally under the law," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said.
