Texas bans minors from tanning beds

Texas has joined such states as California, Illinois and New York in banning those under 18 from using indoor tanning beds. The Texas Dermatological Society and the Texas Medical Association supported the ban, which was opposed by business owners and industry groups. The evidence that a tanning bed increases the risk of melanoma is clear, according to dermatologist Jeffrey Gershenwald, medical director of the University of Texas Melanoma and Skin Center in Houston.
