The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation has further delayed the effective date of 201 CMR 17, a regulation that implements the provisions of M.G.L. c.93H as related to the standards to be met in connection with the safeguarding of personal information contained in both paper and electronic records. The general compliance deadline has now been extended until March 1. The implementation of the regulation designed to protect individuals' privacy has been delayed "to provide flexibility to businesses that may be experiencing financial challenges brought on by national and international economic conditions," according to the OCABR.
