Mo. community group, schools focus on early literacy

A nonprofit educational advocacy group called Bright Futures Joplin in Missouri is developing a community-based early-literacy program called Reading Matters that aims to improve early-childhood literacy. The city's school system is launching efforts as well -- among them, providing e-readers to preschool, kindergarten and first-grade classrooms and making the devices available for students to use at home.
