More investments needed in smart buildings as utilities tap ADR

More utilities are experimenting with emerging automated demand response solutions such as those based on the OpenADR standard. But experts say the future of ADR will ultimately depend on the advanced smart buildings required to interface with it. Analyst Jim McHale writes the market for so-called Enterprise Energy Management could be valued at $225 billion by 2030 but will require evolving regulatory standards and an influx of new investments to drive the construction and modification of smart buildings.
