Common sense, modest spending key for late retirement savers

Spending modestly and prioritizing savings and debt reduction now are key for boomers whose late-blooming families -- and their expenses -- mean they'll have less time to put retirement savings at the top of their budget. Couples who marry and have children later will have less empty-nest time to save before retirement, so they should start adjusting spending now while the kids are still on the "payroll."
