Wash. stormwater runoff leads to $847,000 in EPA fines for 4 firms

The Environmental Protection Agency has imposed $847,000 in total fines on four companies accused of polluting the Duwamish River in Washington state with industrial stormwater runoff. The companies violated the Clean Water Act by allowing mud and toxic materials to pollute their stormwater runoff, the EPA said. The companies' individual fines ranged from $33,000 to more than $500,000.
