Federal incentives promote energy efficiency

The federal government has made several tax credits and rebates available to help defray the cost of making buildings more energy efficient. Federal tax credits of up to $1,500 are available to homeowners who install new roofs that mitigate the heat-island effect, for example. Meanwhile, tax credits are available to home builders who sell homes that meet energy-saving standards.
