The percentage of births covered by Medicaid rose from 40% in 2008 to 48% in 2010, a difference of about 90,000 additional births, according to a report in the journal Women's Health Issues. Southern states had the highest percentage of births paid for by the program, while the lowest rates were in the Northeast and Northwest.
