SNMMI takes steps to raise dose awareness

SNMMI is working to address concern among patients and families about radiation dose. The society has worked with the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission to gather data on dose usage related to PET and bone scans and has collaborated with a dozen other nuclear medicine societies worldwide to raise dose optimization awareness. Although reducing exposure is always a goal, "it'll be more of a challenge on the nuclear medicine side because we've been trying to administer the minimum dose all along," said SNMMI Past President Frederic Fahey.
