HHS awards about $12 million in rural health IT grants

HHS is providing 40 rural health groups nationwide with a total of $11.9 million to help them adopt electronic health records and other health IT systems, as part of the Obama administration's Rural Health Initiative. Grant recipients will use the funds to buy technology and train staffers as well as assist eligible doctors in qualifying for EHR incentives through Medicare or Medicaid, HHS said.
