Report shows Pa.'s need for bridge improvements

Pennsylvania has more than 5,000 structurally deficient bridges despite spending more than $2.7 billion since 2008 on bridge work. The pace of decay is faster than the pace of repair, according to the state Transportation Funding Advisory Commission. "Even if bridges aren't listed as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete, they require funding and resources to properly maintain them and continue inspections on them," PennDOT's Erin Waters said.
