Calif. PUC kicks in $10 million more to complete Eastern Sierra network

California regulators on Thursday earmarked nearly $10 million in additional state funding to complete a 530-mile fiber-optic network that links the Eastern Sierra mountain range bordering Nevada with San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles. The state's Public Utilities Commission had previously approved a $19.3 million grant for the broadband project, which also received $81 million in federal stimulus grants. The link will provide service to about 28,000 homes, along with thousands of businesses and community institutions.
