Jobs data are mixed; unemployment rate slips to 7.3%

The economy added 169,000 jobs last month, but the number for July was adjusted downward by 58,000. The Department of Labor reports that the unemployment rate has dropped to 7.3%, although most of the reduction is attributed to people who have stopped looking for a job.
