School budget cuts in Philadelphia cause worry for parents of students with disabilities

Philadelphia School District's financial woes have sparked concern among parents and advocates of students with disabilities who fear the loss of assistant principals, counselors and other key staffers could cause reductions in special-education services. While advocates have sought to make sure parents know how to hold schools accountable, district officials have offered reassurances. "The resources will look different, yes, but our commitment is steadfast, and we're going to do our utmost to meet the needs of every child," district spokesman Fernando Gallard said.
