Wash. district's teachers use summer for training on common core, STEM

Teachers and other school staff in the Marysville School District in Washington state have been preparing all summer for the school year, particularly the shift to the Common Core State Standards and new teaching methods. "The new math and agile minds stuff is great, but it's new, so it's an adjustment," said eighth-grade algebra teacher Colleen Thomas, who said she participated in a science, technology, engineering and math Teacher Externship Program this summer.
