In 1995, two friends founded a company named Harmonix that united their love of music and computing. They thought their system for controlling music through hand gestures would be huge, first for Disney, then for Japanese karaoke. But both business models flopped miserably, and the founders turned to gaming as a last resort. Eventually they created "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band," two of the most successful video games ever -- successful enough to land a rare deal with the Beatles.
