Geographer to lead $25M investigation of the effects of the Gulf oil spill

Craig Colten, a Louisiana State University geography professor, will lead a five-year effort to study the effects of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Colten, a historical geographer, noted residents have coped with past spills. "Sometimes solutions are well known to experienced local residents with generations of experience in coping with irregular, but not unexpected, traumatic events," he said.
