M2M profit picture will prove a tricky one for carriers

Carriers will not find a one-size-fits-all solution to squeezing profits from the emerging machine-to-machine business, according to a report from analyst Chetan Sharma. His firm warns that "the traditional cost models" won't prove effective because operators may have to quadruple the number of connected devices they introduce in the coming years to remain competitive.
