Mobile-learning initiatives are receiving federal support

The Federal Communications Commission has launched its pilot "Learning-On-the-Go" program, an effort to modernize the E-rate program that is bringing $9 million in grants to fund mobile-learning initiatives by 20 districts, schools and libraries in 14 states. Participants were chosen for their innovative proposals and include the San Diego Unified School District, where a program is under way to provide laptops and round-the-clock wireless access to an online curriculum for students in sixth grade at 10 schools.
