Teaching students about inspiration, gratitude through 9/11

Rutgers University professor Maurice Elias suggests educators teach students about the events of 9/11 over a month, in the context of social and emotional learning, teaching about inspiration and gratitude and honoring the acts of bravery and caring by the first responders. Teachers also should check with parents about whether students were directly affected by the events, and ensure that emotional considerations and careful planning take precedence over the timing of any 9/11 lessons, he writes.
