Dengue fever cases increase in Martin County, Fla.

Fifteen cases of dengue fever have been documented in southeastern Florida, according to public health officials in Martin County. Domestic acquisition of the disease is extremely rare in the U.S., and officials note the number of dengue infections among travelers returning from the Caribbean and Central and South America is also higher than usual. Health officials have urged the public to observe safety measures, such as wearing protective clothing and draining stagnant water, to prevent mosquito bites.
