Infection prevention methods save lives, money at hospitals

Strict implementation of hand hygiene practices, measures to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia and compliance with guidelines for the use of central-line catheters reduce hospital-acquired infections, according to a study published in the journal Health Affairs. The three methods helped reduce patient deaths by 2 percentage points and hospital stays by an average of two days, according to the study.
