India's shoppers tighten belts as sales season winds down

India's end-of-season sales started strong the last week in July but slowed to a more moderate pace in the following weeks, retailers reported, reflecting both concerns about the economy and the need to save for the upcoming Dussehra-Diwali festival season. The end of the sale period coincided with the arrival of new fall merchandise, and some stores ended their sales early to make way for the new goods.
